This charming town features a dynamic blend of residential and business/commercial areas. Kearny is located on 9.3 square miles in western Hudson County, New Jersey. Currently it has a population of about 40,000. Two rivers, the Hackensack and the Passaic, border this charming town.

Kearny is well situated between Newark, New Jersey's renaissance city, and Jersey City, along the Path rail line with direct access to New York City. This quiet bedroom community features several houses of worship, great public schools and easy access to all surrounding cities with an amazing infrastructure already in place. Kearny offers the best of both worlds, the job opportunities that Newark, New York City and Jersey City offer, and the quiet tree lined streets for when you get home.

Pronounced “karni,” Kearny was founded in 1867 with the creation of Kearny, Township. The town got its name from Civil War general Philip Kearny. In 1899, Kearny was incorporated as a town. A decade later, the Kearny Town Hall was built, where it still stands today, almost in the exact center of town. A statue of General Kearny stands in front of the Post Office on Midland Avenue, dedicated to it's citizens.

Today’s Kearny is made up of two sections. South Kearny is home to manufacturing, transportation and other industries. The “Uplands” is the primary residential area of the city. Comprised of single and multifamily homes, apartments and retail shops, it is a quaint area where residents can stroll, shop the popular Farmer’s market, or simply sit and drink coffee at some of their great ethnic restaurants,and enjoy a day in the park. Gunnell Oval on Schuyler Avenue offers several soccer and baseball fields where children practice and play. Gunnell Oval also is a gateway to the marshes, where you can walk in solitude and enjoy nature.

While the direct rail link was abolished several years ago, there is convenient bus service to Path, or to Newark's Penn Station.Route 21, NJ Turnpike, Route 280, Route 3, Route 17, and Route 1&9 connect effortlessly to the rest of New Jersey, and the world.
